Visitors to Malta who reside outside the EU and are travelling to a final destination outside the European Community can reclaim VAT on goods purchased for personal or family use, provided the goods are not consumed or used in Malta or any EU country. Refunds apply only to purchases from a single establishment of at least €55, and a total value of at least €315 per departure.
To claim a refund, complete an application form available at Customs exit points, have it stamped at your last EU departure, and send it with original receipts to the VAT Department. Refunds are paid by draft in the currency specified, with an administrative fee of €23 or 4% of the refund, whichever is higher.
