2000km in 10 days to raise funds for Renal Patients
Valletta Waterfront is proudly supporting the LifeCycle Challenge Malta 2024 from Botswana to South Africa.
Journey of Good Hope is a 2,000km bike challenge from Gaborone in Botswana to the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa, to be completed in just 10 days by 16 cyclists. The team departed Malta on October 25th, and will return to our islands on Friday November 8th, with the challenge currently ongoing in earnest. The purpose of this journey is to raise both funds and awareness for individuals suffering from renal failure.
Stephen Xuereb, COO of Global Ports Holding and CEO of Valletta Cruise Port, operators of Valletta Waterfront expressed his support for this cause, "It is inspiring to see the determination of these cyclists fighting through gruelling conditions from scorching sun, strong winds to uphill climbs and muscle pain, cycling such a distance in just 10 days, all in support of patients fighting kidney disease. Renal failure is a debilitating condition affecting more people worldwide year on year - indeed 1 in every 10 people in Malta suffer from a form of kidney disease. We encourage all and sundry to help out in order to make a difference in the lives of these patients and their families."
The LifeCycle Foundation was founded in 1999 in order to increase awareness of renal disease, raise funds for the treatment of renal patients and promote research into the causes and possible cures for renal failure. To achieve these goals, the Foundation is responsible for a number of challenges and projects simultaneously working closely with local patients and professionals to ensure its efforts are effective, adapting holistic support through the donation of practical life-saving equipment and investment in research, whilst taking steps to help improve patients’ quality of life.
