About 2 km west of the village of Żurrieq lies the tiny harbour of Wied iż-Żurrieq, set in a narrow inlet in the cliffs and guarded by a watchtower. This authentic little village is renowned for its steep clifs and deep sea waters. Boats depart weather permitting, for enjoyable 30-minute cruises to the Blue Grotto, a huge natural arch in the sea cliffs,along with other sea caves. The best time is before mid-morning, when the sun is shining into the grotto.The Blue Grotto which is the largest and most popular one can be seen from the viewpoint area. Wied iz Zurrieq is also known for spectacular sunsets and panoramic views to the island of Filfla, located further west from the coastline, an Island of ecological importance.
