Some of Malta’s megalithic temples were built as early as 3,600 BC and it is claimed that they are the oldest free-standing structures worldwide. Many of the temples are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Ħagar Qim and Mnajdra Temples in Qrendi and Tarxien Temples in Tarxien amongst others. The underground Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum is also a UNESCO World Heritage site but must be pre-booked.
